Abstract EN

This study attempts to test the theory that relates poetic themes (aghrad) to meter in Arabic poetry by applying this theory to Ibn Unayn- Al-Ansari's poetry.

Many scholars, medieval as well as modern, have associated certain poetic with certain poetic meters claiming that each theme has a particular meter that goes with it and suits it best.

The present study concludes that the above mentioned association between poetic themes and meter is far from being systematic in Ibn Unan's poetry: this poet has many different Arabic poetic meters in treating the same poetic of meter and its effectiveness as a poetic element are determined by internal textual factors and elements, rather than by the topic or poetic theme.
