Abstract EN

This piece of field research aimed at knowing how faculty members evaluate the organizational climate at the University of Jordan.

The focus was on the social/ psychological aspcct.s of organizational climate which includes: Administration Philosophy, Decision Making Process, Relationship Style, Communication Style, Performance Evaluation, and Motivation Policy.

The sum of these six aspects constitutes the whole organizational climate.

The study was conducted on a stratified random sample of faculty members: males and females, of various academic ranks, from humanities and sciences fields.

Data was collected from the sample through a special questionaire designed and distributed during the summer of 1991.

Data have been processed and analysed through the use of (SAS) program in order to obtain means, standard deviations, percentages for the demographic characteristics of the sample, and the evaluation of various aspects of organizational climate by faculty members.

Moreover, analysis of variance (ANOVA) was obtained to see if there was any effect of statistical significance of independent variables (sex, academic rank, college affiliation, length of service) on the evaluation of organizational climate.

The computer center at the University of Jordan provided the needed facilities for this process.

The study concludes that faculty members do not evaluate organizational climate at the university highly.

This conclusion necessitates the urgent attention of the university administration to imporve the situation.

Specific and practical recommendations were given to help in that regard.
