Abstract EN

The objective of this field research is to study the socio-economic impact of the Jordan Phosphate Mining Co.

on neighbor population.

The geographic area sample of the study is southern region of Jordan which consist of Al-Karak, Ma’an and Alta-fila govemetes.

To mesaure the socio-economic impact, the authors use a conducted extensive field survey.

Other previous studies by the Royal Scientific Society, Mu'tah University, and the Ministry of Social Development is also used.

Our research shows a positive socio-economic impact of the mining co.

on the population surrounding the mines.

We also concluded that a negative consequences to be expected in the case of discontinued operations due to the depletion of phosphate reserve in the region.

Finally, the authors recommended some measures to reinforce the development rule of the mining co.

in the region.

We laos suggested some alternatives to insure some development continuity after the phosphate is run out and the company terminate its operations.
