Abstract EN
The effeetivencess of the Jordanian zeolite tuff in the removal of ammonium ions from water is investigated.
This study was carried out with the view of the potential use of this tuff for the removal of NH+4 from wastewaters.
The tuff samples used were found to have a total zeolite content of 62% and a cation-exchange capacity of 1.98 meq/g.
These values are higher than those of 55% and 1.17 meq/g respectively determined for Ratka clinoptilolite (from Hungary).
The results of tests using equilibrium conditions showed that the Jordanian phillipsite has more selectivity for ammonium than the Ratka clinoptilolite.
"Hie column conditions were performed using NH+4 concentrations of 5 and 30 ppm, and breakthrough curves were constructed.
The dynamic data, length of the mass transfer zone (MTZ) and the columns effeciencies were obtained from these curves.
