Abstract EN

The effect of various cone, (10, 50, 100 & 500 ppm) of antibiotics Gentamyaih, C.NIO' Chloramphenicol, C30; Cephalexin, CL30; Erythromycin, El5; Tetracyclin, TE30; and Penicillin, P10) in addition, water and kinetin were studied on the sprouting, growth of plantJets and development of Orthotropic rhizomes.

The results showed that CL30 and C30 up to 500 ppm and 100 ppm enhanced sprouting, where as other antibiotics including kinetin only delayed it.

100% tubers were sprouted in all treatments within 10 days.

Unlike kinetin, non of the antibiotics resulted in the establishment of more than' one spout per tuber, Kinetin, CN10, CL30 and El 5 promoted shoot growth at low concentration and inhibited it at high concentration.

Where as TE30 at 100 and 500 ppm reduced shoot growth, while P10 treatment increased: it at the same concentration, C30 inhibited shoot and root growth and have killed all plantlets at 500 ppm concentration.

No roots were developed in CN10 and TE30 treatments at 500 ppm concentration.

Dense root growth was most favoured by CL30 at low concentrations.

Kinetin, E15, TE30 and P10 induced rhizome differentiation and elongation.
