This research covers a comprehensive survey for transportation networks in Jordan for the period 1900 -1990 A.

Data collection and analysis Have revealed that there are discrepancies fn the completeness, accuracy, authentication, updating and communication of the latest know - how in transportation methods by some ministries and departments who are in charge of transportation.

An important conclusion which has been arrived at by the researcher is the transportation networks haw been developed considerably during the reign of His Majesty King Hussein, particularly In the areas of organizing, planning, design and construction.

The period 1975 -1985 A.

is considered the peak period relative to the number and Importance of transportation projects which have been accomplished since the beginlng of this century.

in the Arab world, in 1981 Jordan was in fourth place with respect to the ratio of asphaltic roadways to area (49 km / 1000 sq.

km) and ranked seventh relative to the ratio of asphaltic roadways to population (1.4 km /1000 people), fn 1990, asphafSc paved roads jumped to 75 km / 1000 sq.

km and to 1.5 km / 1000 people.

As far as the number of vehicles, it reached in 1990 to about255000 vehicles, at the rate of 60 vehicles per 1000 people, whereas in 1977 the rate was 32 vehicles /1000 people and in 1983 it was 54 vehicles /1000 people.

Relative to the railroad system, although a noticeable improvement has occured, nevertheless it did not develop at the same rate as highways and airports did.

Its length is no more than 10% of the length of paved roads.
