Abstract EN

This study is concerned with the process of urban renewal of the central area of Holy Makkah.

It overviews principle problems of renewal and then it delineates the goal of the study which is the provision of integrated principles to deal with renewal problems.

These principles can ' then be embodied in an urban renewal design which is sensitive to the un- ique attributes of the area and the different dimensions related to it such as functional, cultural, environmental, social, and economic ones.

The Study methodology relies basically on field studies and the analysis, and evaluation of the existing conditions.

It also explores solutions to crys-talize the contribution that the suggested principles could contribute.
