Abstract EN

This paper deals with the concept of uncertainty as one of the basic concepts in statistical sciences and informatics.

Some aspects of this concept are also considered as well as its relationship with the two concepts of information and complexity.

The focus is concentrated on linguistic complexity because it is an important aspect of linguistic uncertainty which is explained through the verses of poetry.

A review of some of the mathematical methods to deal with uncertainty , with an indication of the positive aspects of each method as well as flaws in it.

Then the spotlight on each of the certainty factor and the theory of evidence as dazzling tools to deal with uncertainty, and illustrative examples are given.
