العلاقة بين البطالة و معدلات التغير في الأجور في الأردن 1981-1989

Abstract EN

This study aims at measuring the relationship between unemployment and wages in the labor market in Jordan from 1981 - 1989; elaborarating the ways wages are determind; and briefly discussing the economic theory on this relationship.

The statistical model used in this study shows that there is negative correlation between unemployment rates and the change rates of money - wages.

It is also predicted that wage rates will continue decreasing if unemployment rates keep increasing.

In addition, it is shown that wages in the puplic sector are determined by the government in accordance with the Civil Service Regulations, but in the private sector through collective bargain between Labor Unions and employers (or their Unions) under the supervision of the government in case of dispute.

The study concludes with recommendations to deal with unemployment and wage decrease.
