It is of piculiarity to study the book Tobaqat fuhuul Sh-shusaract? 'Groups of the first class poets’ due to the considerable number of studies done on it, particularly those included in the books of criticisim in the early stages of the crtical writing .

However, it appears more peculiar not to find any study discussing the book deeply for the aim of finding out the main features of bin Salam’s critical criteria, which are considered the best in portraying the status of criticism in its primary stages.

In this paper the writer discuses the various issues tackled in the book and gives more attention to the literary and critical ones.

Further, this study points out the critical criteria of bin Salam and their objectivity.

It also highlights the quality of his critical criteria in classifying the first class poets and listing them into groups.

Finally, the paper includes the writers viewpoint on these groups in terms of the recent achievements of the critical movement.

It also involves enough room for clarifying the merits and demerits of every group
