سار الفيروز آبادي في تأليفه لمعجمه على نهج جديد، لعل أبرز ما ميزه : طابع الإيجاز و الاختصار، و لقد كان للاختصار في القاموس عدة مظاهر و أشكال أهمها : 1-الرموز و الاختصارات في باب العين.
2-حذف الشواهد.
3-حذف أسماء الرواة و اللغويين.
4-حذف بعض الاستطرادات الموسوعية.
5-وسائل اخرى.
أ-الاختصار عند عرض مؤنث المدخل بعد مذكره مباشرة.
ب-الاختصار بواسطة وسائل الضبط الصوتي.
ج-عدم تكرار المدخل أثناء عرض القوالب الاستعمالية.
و لنا في هذا العرض تفصيل في ذلك.

Alfayrozabadi Authored his dictionary on a new approach , And the most distinguishing feature of this approach is the brevity and the shortcut , And for the shortcut in the dictionary Ocean , There is a several forms and manifestations , And most important of these manifestations : Symbols And shortcuts in ALAYEN 1 Chapter .
Delete witness .
2 Delete the names of the narrators and 3 linguists .
Delete some encyclopedic additions.
4 Other means : 5 Shortcut when viewing the feminine and masculine .
Shortcut By means of voice control .
Delete the lexical entry when showing the templates of use .
