Abstract EN

The purpose of study is to investigate attitudes of students toward water situation in Jordan and water conservation.

A conservation attitude questionnaire was developed and validated.

Three classes of students were included in study.

They were attending the natural conservation and environmental consevation course at the department of Geography of the University of Jordan, in the second semester of the academic year 1995/1996.

The study revealed that more than 80% of participants were aware of the present water crisis in Jordan and expected serious water problems in the future.

More than 70% of repondents stressed the need to maintain and improve the present water network.

Half of them proposed changes in agricultural patterns in water awareness campaigns; 50% would collect rain water and use it for different purposes.

Students from Amman Governorate ranked the unemployment issue as more important in their personal life than any other subject, while students of Ajloun, Irbid, Jarash rated inflation rates first.

On the other hand, students from Aqaba, Maan, karak, Mafraq, Tafila and Zarqa evaluated the water issue (quality and availability) more important in their personal life than any other issue.

Based on the results of the study, it was recommended that there is an urgent need to concentrate on incresing the general water knowledge.

It was evident
