The purpose of the paper, which deals with the subject of total quality management, is to show to what extend the ideas and principles of this managerial approach are practical, and to show also its potential to achieve good results.

The application of total quality management in many developed countries, especially in the U.S.

and the Japanese firms, has proved its effectiveness and capability to make higher performances.

The paper ends up with an application of the total quality management in an Algerian firm.
