Abstract EN
Implant fracture is one of the important biomechanical complications which can present with a considerable problem to the patient as well as the dental surgeon.
The aim of this case report is to describe the management of a case of fractured endosseous dental implant in premolar region and microscopic evaluation of the fractured implant segment using scanning electron microscopy.
In most of such cases, complete removal of the fractured implant has been a preferred treatment option.
In the present case, fractured implant segment was successfully removed and rehabilitated immediately with larger diameter implant.
It was found that retrieved fracture segment had a diameter of 3.3 mm, and SEM analysis shows fatigue fractures which may be the result of excessive overloading and use of small diameter implant which enhances fatigue failure.
