Abstract EN

The research problem is that the method of communication between players is through their behavior inside the stadium, which makes a loss for most of the personal traits of the players resulting to an increase in the psychological pressure, loss of resistance, and formation of negative attitudes for the players against their fellow players.

A lot of players, especially the advanced ones, expressed the player’s characteristics, which is considered one of the most important resources to lost the psychological toughness of players, and then a state of non-resistance happens.

So, the research aimed to: identify the leadership characteristics and psychological toughness of advanced football players and to identify the relationship between the leadership characteristics and the psychological toughness of advanced football players.

The problem the researchers seek to solve was the one which determine the method that is chosen for the purpose of achieving the desired results.

The researchers used the descriptive approach with two methods : Survey and relations connectivity.

The research community included the players of League rehabilitative Premier League Iraqi clubs for the sports season (2013-2014), who were (190) players and the research sample included (160) players who were selected randomly and thus the percentage of the sample is (84.21 %).

One of the most important conclusions obtained by the researchers was: there was an increase in the leadership characteristics among the players of the sample generally.

Significant differences between the players appeared.

The researchers recommended to the necessity of working on improving the leadership characteristics among the players constantly through training to resist the difficult circumstances in competitions and to make them have a good psychological toughness.
