Abstract EN

The poem of Ibn Almuqanna reflects a conflict between the poet and his kinsmen and brothers.

That conflict is even clearer in the behavior of the two parties.

It could stand for the conflict between the poet and his society.

The poet had a forgiving spirit despite all the wrong his kinsmen did to him.

They tried to hurt him but he never hurt them, nor did he ever hold grudge on them.

Nevertheless, there is a clear tone of blame in the poet's work.

He expresses through his poem the pain he is feeling because of his kinsmen's behavior and acts.

What causes the poet much pain is the fact they never realized the high moral values he showed them.

He wished they had realized his generosity, bravery, self-denial, etc.

Ibn Almuqanna' expressed all these in a convincing poetic language, which reflects his poetic competence.

The language he uses is full of emphasis devices, conditional constructions, negation, change of word order, etc.

all of which serve different rhetorical ends.

These and other features of the poem makes one want to read it over and over again, and give the poem a sort of eternity.
