Abstract EN

The present article deals with the prevalence of the violence phenomenon that has been spread during the last two decades in the Algerian schools, particularly within some areas which have been exposed for a long time to massive man-made violence during the 1990’s.

The author/psychotherapist relies on her clinical work with children victims of school mistreatment and the impact on the latter on the psychological health and school achievement in the long run.

The author concludes that there is a correlation between the traumatic events that Algeria had underwent for more than a decade and the emergence of school violence.

Therefore, teachers also suffer from psychological trauma and burn out as a result of the national tragedy.

Hence, a circle of violence appears in school institutions where we observe dysfunction from both sides: teachers and students.

The author illustrates her findings by presenting a case-study to emphasize the urgent need to make a multidimensional intervention where all actors must be active.
