The French theater is characterized by the updating of the ancient myths.
They are not copied but closer to contemporary audiences.
Francophone playwrights as Kateb Yacine and Wajdi Mouawad make use of the Oedipus myth in a contemporary concern of identity, in need of belonging and the desire for emancipation.
They want to paint through the story of Oedipus their tragic world, traumatized by the war and the fate of human beings living such a condition of life.

Le théâtre francophone se caractérise par la réactualisation des mythes antiques.
Ils ne sont plus imités mais rapprochés au public contemporain.
Les dramaturges francophones comme Kateb Yacine et Wajdi Mouawad font recours au mythe d'OEdipe dans un souci contemporain de l'identité, dans le besoin d’appartenance et le désir d’émancipation.
Ils veulent peindre à travers l'histoire d'OEdipe leur monde tragique, traumatisé par la guerre et le devenir de l'être humain vivant une telle condition de vie.
