Recent advances in molecular biology, genetics, and clinical research are transforming the understanding of the molecular mechanisms of human diseases and in particular of endocrine disorders.
It is now clear, more than ever, that disease is a function of genes, whether they are involved directly or indirectly through the environment.
The significant advances have occurred through the completion of the sequencing of human genome.
Proteomics have gained much attention as a drug development platform because disease processes and treatments are often manifested at the protein level.
Protein expression profiles are used in cancer research to identify tumor subtypes and to achieve a more reliable and objective classification.
Molecular analysis allows for subgrouping based on genomic or proteomic profiles together with histopathology evaluation in colorectal cancer, breast cancer, lung cancer, lymphomas and others.
