Abstract EN
The nuclear wastes resulting from nuclear explosives and reactors are classified in various physical states (solid, fluid and gaseous).
In order to get rid of the activity of these radioactive wastes, they are stored in the submerged pools of water as first step and under tight control for many years until they lose a part of their high radiation activity.
Also by using of physical and chemical methods to reduce them to the lowest possible size through casting them in the form of small molds placed inside other molds of concrete surrounded by a thick wall of steel, where they are transported carefully to the concrete deep wells that may range of several kilometers deep in the ground.
As for nuclear waste storage in sea-beds and oceans, the concrete containers are buried under depths up to 500 meters from the ground, and this depth is sufficient to reduce their risks to an acceptable limit, once taking into account the stability that covers these beds / bottoms, depth of which may reach several kilometers.
Scientists are now studying the possibility of sending thousands of tons of nuclear wastes in parcels using missiles heading toward the sun or deployment in space far from the earth.
