Abstract EN

In the beginning it is the (title), the first threshold of communication between the creator and the recipient.

If the old creative text had ignored the (title), the modern creative text has paid full attention and care to it, and made it parallel to what it really signifies, although it is a concise text that is hardly more than a brief sentence, at the longest.

The ’title” has drawn considerable attention in modern critical studies to the extent that critics have attached to it types and functions in the creative works and in others, and bestowed on it, in some cases, so a central and decisive role in reading those works that it perhaps equaled the body of the text it represents in urging the reader to interpret the content of the work and discover its connotations.

This research entitled (authority of title in the poem "The thread tied to the Cypress" by poetess Nazek Al-Mala’ka, seeks to analytically explore the extension of the (title) of this poem / tale in a semiological manner in its artistic makeup as being a text threshold, and uncover its interpretive dimensions and how far it is successful in correlating to the spirit of the poem in such a way that cannot be disregarded as a non- interpretative reference, so that one can read it in a manner reflecting the deep connotations embedded in its internal structure.

Not every (title) is worthy of critical study until the scholar succeeds in his creativity and presents it as a text parallel to the larger body of the text it signifies.

Whoever ponders this poem / tale with its title, will find it worthy of careful reading, because it has a set of artistic techniques that have combined to portray her experience in a poetical and narrative manner-such distinguished portrayal crowned with a titled selected with unique creative care.

Perhaps the importance of this poem also lies in her highly poetic power which excelled in maintaining the transparency of the language used here, despite her engagement with interweaving the narrative story-telling, despite that the poem addresses subject matter drawn from a world of very harsh realism.
