Abstract EN

This paper focuses on recruitment and selection of staff in libraries and information centers, within the planning process of human resources and related fields, with emphasis on quality products and services, thereby contributing to the provision of qualified and efficient manpower, to achieve present and future objectives of the organization.

Libraries of all kinds have increasingly become more complex to manage.

In response to cultural and technological changes, libraries and information centres need a wide range of competencies, skills, and presenting new services, to accomplish their tasks successfully, such as searching databases on the Internet, and the use of electronic resources of all kinds.

The paper also addresses estimation of manpower requirements, training programmes, to develop capabilities and skills of the staff, the emphasis on quality of products and services, the use of standards, and evaluation of overall performance.
