Abstract EN

This articlc presents preliminary discussions of the Orientalists’ postulations regarding the Qur’an.

The author aims at following the conventions of the genre of publications reviews in scrutinizing the Orientalist stand on Quranic issues.

Features of this genre are observed: the many citations, and careful referencing.

To be precise, what is presented here is a selective survey of writings to do with Orientalism and the Qur’an.

The article is also to be regarded as an introduction to a more comprehensive bibliographic survey on what is published on the subject at hand in Arabic.

The current list of writings is intended to lie the first in a series of bibliographic works on Orientalism, Islam, Islamic sciences, e.g.

Sunnah, history, among others, which the author intends to publish in a sequence.

Three sections make up the current study.

Firstly, Orientalism and the translation of the Qur’an, in which the statements and tenets of researchers on the subject are reviewed.

Secondly, evangelization and the translation of the Qur’an, which looks into the hidden motives behind evangelical undertakings in this field.

Thirdly, an evaluation of the efforts of scholarly institutions in the field of Qur’an translation.

The articlc concludes with some relevant recommendations.
