This paper engaged in a discussion of sixteen syntactic phenomena pertaining to the lexical items as well as constructions in sural al-Hujurat (The Chambers.

Q., 49).

For instance, the first of these sixteen discussed the different views on whether the verb tuqaddimu within the context of the surah is transitive or intransitive.

The author thoroughly scrutinized each phenomenon by referring to first-hand sources to explain grammarians’ views on it and opined on the likelihood of a certain view as opposed to the others based on certain criteria for comparison.

'Hie paper also paid attention to the views of exegetes on Qur’anic meanings particularly those which directly affect syntax.

Additionally, traditional rationalization of modes of Qur’anic reading (Tawjih al-Qjr&'fii) was brought to bear on the explication of these phenomena.

Problematic grammatical rulings regarding the construed infinitives (masadir mu’awwalah) and the accusative mrusubdl were dealt with in the paper.

Finally, particles were reviewed placing them against their more likely meanings.
