Abstract EN
This work has developed invitro technique for micropropagation for future use in rapid clonal propagation of “Sweet Charlie” strawberry cultivar.
Success of producing healthy plant was greatly associated with the media constitutents and overcoming of rate of contaimination.
Double sterilization, using “Clorox“ 1% and mercuric chloride were preventing to eliminate pathogen.
M&S medium supplemented with 1mg / L IBA + 1mg / LGA3 + 0.2 mg/LBA gave the best results for shooting developed, callus and rooting formation.
Furthermore, the plantlets produced were planted in pots filled with mixture of peatmoss and sand (1:1) gave the best results of survived plantlets.
“Sweet Charlie” strawberry (Fragaria X ananasse ,Duch) was selected from across between “FL 80 - 456” (anthracnose - resistant clone) and “Pajaro” (anthracnose fruit tot - susceptible), short day cultivar, early fruiting, sweet flovour and resistant to anthracnose.
Brecht, 1997.
Invitro micropropagation has been used successfully in rapid clonal propagation of various plant particularly in the mass production scale (Abott, 1977; Rosati et al, 1980 and Bondok et al, 1987) This study aimed to establish invitro technique to micropropagate “Sweet Charlie” Strawberry cultivar for Future use in rapid clonal propagation of such cultivar.
