Abstract EN

It is a habit of al-Suyutt to preface his books with an introduction in which mention is made of a number of points among which he includes the references he consults in the book.

Prominent among his books is his valuable commentary, al-Durr al-Manthur Ji al- Tafstr hi al-Ma’thur (The Dispersed Pearls Concerning Tradition-Based Exegesis), which is a summary of his narration based (musnad) commentary, Turjumdn al- Qur 'an (The Interpreter of the Qur’an).

al-Suyuti includes in the introduction of al-Durr al-Manthur the references from which he documented the narrations of exegesis mentioned in the book.

This is a remarkable manifestation of an assiduous writing methodology particular to him during his age.

All of the printed editions of the book do not supply al-Suyuti’s piece on his sources, despite its availability in some of the manuscripts of the book.

This article sheds light on this missing part of al-Durr al-Manthur's introduction, editing it from available manuscripts and commenting on it.
