It is published here for the first time, containing all the points in which abu Sa‘id al-Hasan al-Basri differed with abu ‘Amr ibn al-‘Ala’ al-Mazini on, regarding the riwayah (Qur’an transmission) of al-Duri through al-Yazidi through abu ‘Amr ibn al-‘AIa\ other than what they agreed upon and what is undisputed among Qur’an readings authorities.

The Mufradah is one of eleven such manuscripts written down by the renowned authority of Qur’an readings, abu ‘Ali al-Hasan ibn Ibrahim ibn Yazdad al-Ahwazi (d.

466 AH) about one thousand years ago.

Due to this time lapse most of these Mufradahs were lost.

Only two of them were preserved: this is one of them, and the other is the Mufradah of ibn Muhaysin.

This one stands out as being the only book that we can find containing the whole Reading of al-Hasan al- Basri transmitted through an unbroken chain of narrators connected all the way to the Prophet.

It merits particular care and attention considering its longevity, uniqueness of its matter, rarity of its copies, eminence of its author, al-Ahwazi, who is respected for his high-grade chain of transmission ('uluwi l-isnad) and assiduity in authoring.

It is, additionally, one of the main reference works that many Qur’an interpreters, linguists and reciters rely upon.

The editor has taken great care in editing the manuscript of the Mufradah.

He added diacritical marks, cross-checked specialized references, defined the terms, wrote biographical details of the personalities, introduced it with a detailed study of the author’s life, studied the text and authenticated its title, verified that it belongs to the author, and he spelled out his method of editing.
