Abstract EN

This research aims to identifying the counseling needs of educational counselors in Iraq.

It's also aims to identify them according to the variable (male, female).

Since the educational counselors are under a lot of psychological stress beside their counseling duties, thus identifying their counseling needs helps them to be free for their counseling duties to provide appropriate educational and psychological counseling services for the students and those in need.

All that to help them achieve the basic goals of the education and learning process.

To accomplish that, the researcher highlighted the research population of male and female educational counselors in Iraq provinces, their number was (2912).

Using the stratified random sampling, (262) counselors have been chosen from (5) provinces which are (Baghdad, Mosel, Erbil, Kirkuk and Salhaddin "Tikrit").

That is (% 0,9) from the research population.

To measure counseling needs (educational and psychological), the researcher was in need to construct a scale for these needs.

Therefore the researches made personal interviews with (25) counselors, (5) in each province to identify their main counseling needs.

Then the researcher done an exploratory research by an open question to (30) counselors in (Baghdad, Mosel, Erbil) about their main counseling needs that hinders their counseling process.

After depending on related scientific and educational resources, a tool has been constructed which contains (48) items in two subscales (educational and psychological).

After conducting validity and reliability, the final form of the scale contained (46) items and was ready for application.

Then the scale has been applied on the research sample.

The researcher done the data treatment according to a gradual five scale of each item (5.4.

The results showed that every item is significant at level (0,5).

That means the male and female counselors in secondary and preparatory schools in Iraq have different levels of psychological and educational counseling needs that requires to be met.

Also the needs of male counselors was more and severer that of female counselors
