Abstract EN

The article is based on a paper presented at a conference on "Prospects for Information Systems 2000” held at Yarmouk University in June 1993.

The article provided definition and scope of transborder data flow with emphasis on electronic medial excluding mass communication.

The technological, legal, social and economic issues involved in trans-border data flow were discussed with special reference to the national information policy and its implementation in Jordan.

With regard to library and information sector the same issues were discussed with emphasis on telecommunication, data base development and exchange, storage media, employment opportunities, types of data transferred, interlibrary loan systems and the international standards related to the matter including the communication formats and systems interchange.

A set of suggestions was also provided to consider in the development process of transborder data flow policies and infrastructure in Jordan.
