Abstract EN

The Organization of the Islamic Conference is the most recent large scale re-gional organization, established in 1969 to untite the efforts of all muslim sates (46 members) to restre Jerusalem and the occupied palestinian land.

This paper intends to analyse the relationship between this organization and the UN in three respects : First, The status of OIC in the UN concept of regional arrangements.

Second.

A ^mpartive study of the attitudes of the two organizations as regards five main issues : th،؛ ?alestinian question (including Jerusalem), the Iran - Iraq conflict, the East Timor case, the Afghanistaen problem and the problem of Cyprus.

Third, The prospects of areas of cooperation between the two organizations.

The conclusion of this inquiry leads to emphasize that the OIC members are to-tally committed to the UN charter especially article / 03 accorording to which the charter obligations, in case of conflict, dominate.

On the other hand there seems to be an apparent concordnace of the attitudes of both organizations vise a vis the main selected issues under scrutiny.

An effort was made to analyse the politics in both or-§anizations that decide the level of effectiveness of the UN rather than the OIC.

And lastly, some proposals had been presented to foster the scale and areas of cooperation of both organizations in issues of common interest.
