Abstract EN

The agreement on trade related aspects of intellectaal property rights was reached in the Urguay round .

This paper aims at investigating the impact of such an agreement on the intellectual property rights in the Arab World .

In 3 Chapters, the author discusses the principles of the agreement in relation to the domestic laws of the memberstates of the ITO (International Trade Organization ) , The author then moves to examining the agreement in detail discussing, in the meantime , its impact on the intellectual property rights in the Arab States .

Issues like copyrights and trademarks are discussed among others in this paper.

The paper concludes that the Arab States are incapable of competing with the Industrialised states in the field of intellectual property.

Therefore, they will not benifit from such agreement and will have to pay for copyrights, trade marks, computer programmes and satellites .

This is a challenge that requires higher coordination among the Arab States in order to cope with it.
