Abstract EN
This paper concen،rates on the concept of" Structural adjustment of the national economy " applying it on the Libyan economy, as it is a petroleum - oriented economy, depending to a large extent on the oil industry and the public sector for its development and economic activity.
author aimed at highlighting the major structural changes that occured to the Lybian economy between 1970 and 1991.
The follow-ing points were covered : Total investments in Libya, the need for structural adjustments of the Libyan economy and the major sectors changes between 1970 and 1991 .
The paper recommends that the dependence of the Libyan economy on the petroleum industry should be gradually decreased , in the coures of the development process , thus resulting in real structural changes.
This would lead to the development of alternative sectors, which in turn would lead the development process without the need for oil.
