Abstract EN

This paper identifies the features ofthe aesthetic consciousness in the early Arabic novels, for the hybrid narrative styles in the Renaissance period point to a serious presence of aesthetic consciousness.

Capturing those features required redefining well-grounded notions in the Arab cultural structure: they are: the Renaissance, the Enlightenment, and Modernity.

However, these definitions arise from a Cultural Studies perspective, which restructures the systematic relations according to a postcolonial theory, since narrative writing, in particular, is a reaction to Imperialism.
