Abstract EN

The paper aims at classifying Yemeni Arab Settlements according to the 1975-1986 Census, what is noticeable is that the growth of ur- ban settlements in Yemen is generally slow.

However Sanaa the capi- tal is an exception to such a rule, the city saw not only a remarkable growth but also modern development that started ever since the seven- ties.

The feature could be justified on the basis of the great difference between the urban development of the city and that of rural areas in Yemen on one hand and the remarkable difference the urban develop- ment of the capital and that of the other capitals of governerates.
