Abstract EN

Linguistic determinism, which represents the extreme form of the Linguistic Relativity Hypothesis , claims that language determines thought That is , the formulation of cognitive structures is dependent on the nature of linguistic structures .

The present study discussed such a claim and pointed out the weaknesses in the hypothesis through presenting some plausible evidence ; namely the linguistic , cultural and cognitive universals in addition to some others .

The study , then , concluded that it is unacceptable to use the hypothesis as a basis for criticizing the system of the Arabic language
