The Date Palm Phoenix dartylifera can not be easily classified as other plants, though it can grow in sand, it is not an arenaccous.

It is not aquatic though it can tolerate wutcr logging for comparatively long periods.

It is not a halophvty despite its healthy growth in salty regions, It is not a xerophyte though it has several characterics of such plants.

The Date Palm is ari ever green with a fibrftus root system extending 25% laterally and 75% horizontally from the lower stem end.

They absorb 50% of the required water from the top 60 cm of soil.

The water requirement could be estimated based on the following symptoms: a) General weekness and/ or failure of the offshoots, b; Increase in the number of dry leaves, c) Less fruit bearing and low quality fruits.

The Date Palm stem is uniform svlinderical and can grow up to 30 meters.

The uniformity of the stem could be affected In abnormal growth conditions.

The leases form a crown around the growing tip offering protection against high temperatures.

About 100-120 green leaves are required for normal production.
