Abstract EN

The study was conducted on 619 Awassi ewes raised in Wadi Fl-Azieb Center in the Syria steppe during the year 1996.

The stud\ aimed at estimating milk yield as affected by ewe age, type of birth, lamb sex and lambing period.

Simple correlation coefficients were found between milk yield.

Lactation period 114.9 days and milk yield averaged 117.7 kg.

Coefficient of variation for milk yield was 25.X6 percent.

Analysis of variance showed that milk yield was agnificantly (P<0.001) affected by the age of dam.

Milk yieJd reached 101 and 132 kg for lactating ewes of two and seven years of age, respectively.

On the other hand, type of birth, sex of the lamb and early breeding of the ewe affected (P>0,<)5) milk yield.

However, lactation period was affected significantly (P<0.001) by th»- time of breeding .

Early lamhod ewes showed longer lactation length than the late lambings e.g.

124 versus 104 days, respectively.

Other factors sych as, age of dam, type of birth and lamb sex had no significant effect on the lactation period.

High correlation coefficients were found between monthly production and total milk yield.

Milk production during the second month nr cumulative milk production during the first two months were highly correlated.
