Abstract EN

This contribution entitled «Ice consumption in the Arab-Islamic civilization in the Middle Ages: An instrument of influence on the environment)) deals with the use of ice in the Arab Islamic civilization.

It aims to highlight the role played by the Arab-Islamic civilization in adapting natural materials such as ice in homes and smoothed drinks for conferring a form of comfort on life.

It shows how the medieval Arabs were conscious of the possibility to change natural conditions and control it for the benefit of humanity.

The study tries to highlight two things: First: the technical abilities that allowed the transfer of Ice from production areas in the mountains to very remote and warm areas which shows an ability of high technology.

Second: This contribution seeks to underline through the Ice as there was an ice road like the Silk Road, as shown by medieval sources.

The study also, seeks to present the various uses of the Ice as shown by medieval texts.
