Abstract EN

This research deals with the relation-ship between the government of Saudi Arabia and the Arabian Oil Company Limited during the period 1377-1420 H./ 1957-2000 G.

It focuses on the company's history which dates back to 1375/ 1956, when Taro Yamashita and a group of Japanese business men founded the Arabian Oil Company Ltd.

The research follows the negotiations for obtaining the concession which began in the end of 1376 H.

/ July 1957 G.

and ended by the signing of the concession agreement on 1377 H.

10/ 12/ 1957 G.

According to this agreement, the Saudi Arabian government granted the company a license to drill for oil and discover it for a period not to exceed two years, and a concession of production for forty years from the date of the end of the previous period.

The research includes data of oil production which was increasing rapidly since the beginning of commercial production 1382 H.

/ 1961 G.

until it reached its peak in 1418 H.

/ 1998 G.

at a rate of 101.872.000 barrels of crude oil a day.

The research concludes that the concession was not renewed in 1420 H.

/ 2000 G.

because of the Company's refusal of the Saudi government demands.
