The present study aims at determining the different methods Al- Sheriff Al-Jurjani used to express the significance of terms in his lexicon ((The definitions)) (Al-taarifat).
It was found that the many and various methods are of two kinds: basic and secondary.
Regarding the basic methods, explaining the terms through the definition forms the solid foundation of ((The definitions)) lexicon.
The other method is including both the linguistic and idiomatic significance of the terms or expressions to effectively show there semantic development towards technical or scientific ones.
