Abstract EN

Accurate maps of all types and scales are demanded as essential prerequisites for successful implementation of environmental studies and for development projects.

This demand for maps has been increasing in Saudi Arabia as a direct result of the national development plans.

The present study aims at evaluating the development of modem topographic maps production in Saudi Arabia by achieving the following objectives : 1-To illustrate the roles of the various agencies, national and foreign, which participated in the production of maps of various scales during the past 50years.

2-To explain the role and significance of maps as tools in the successful achievement of developmental plan at the local, regional and national scales.

3-To simplify the task of individuals and other interested agencies in obtaining the required maps in the shortest time with the coast effort, and minimum financial.
