Abstract EN

GIS is a computer driven spatially oriented analytical formation systems that methodologically relate to other information systems such as remote sensing, computer cartography and DBMSs etc.

The fractional composition of GIS includes data input, data transformation and management, map/image analysis, and display components, in addition to modeling and decision support fonctions.

This research aims at using Geographical Information Systems (GIS) to acl*ieve the following o^ectives: ا .

Making detailed thematic maps ©f ecological var؛abies in the agro-pastoral regions of Saudi Arabia.

١٧^٥ the attention to the possibility of using the ecological thematic maps to build agro-ecological database for the benefit of agricuJturai planning and better agricultarai management.

Demonstration of the role and importance ofG^S spatial methods and its software in applied and operational agricultural research and works to improve agricultural management and development particularly in the field of information-based "precision agriculture" in KSA.

The research analysis work uses the a^“pastoral regions classification and the main ecological variables such as temperature, rainfall, relie، drainage, soil محله natural vegetation maps as input data in a GIS cartographic model.

The research concludes with an emphasis that GIS based agro-pastoral ecological mapping is a future necessity.

This helps to better classify, analyze, plan and manage agriculture and the substantiation of the concept of spatial information-based ,'precision agriculture” in Saudi Arabia.
