Noam Chomsky's Syntactic Structures (ر957ل, Aspects of the Theory of Syntax (ر965ل and related key articles and books in the field.

Before introduing his model, Chomsky criticized the behaviorist approach of structuralism in order to set the stage for his theory, taking the intuition of native speakers and the creative aspects of linguistic ability into account.

In the first phase of the theory an infinite set of sentences produced by phrase structure rules form the in put for the application of transformational rules which generates an infinité set of sentences by finite components.

In the second phase the theory is expanded to accommodate phonology and semantics.

The basis of the earlier model includes terms such as deep structure, surface structure, competence, performance, excursiveness, semantics, innateness and grammar universals.

So, this paper sheds light on some history of transformation generative grammar.
