Abstract EN

The current study aims at investigating the significance of the relationship between the irrational thoughts and life satisfaction of secondary school students in the State of Kuwait.

In addition, it aims to determine the irrational thoughts that can predict life satisfaction.

Also, it aims to investigate the significance of the differences between males and females in the irrational thoughts and life satisfaction.

The sample of the study consists of (290) students distributed equally; (145) males and (145) females.

The age of the sample ranges from (14) to (18) years old with a mean 16.1 year and a standard deviation (1.2) year.

Tools of the study included a scale of irrational thoughts for children and teenagers.

Multidimensional Students Life Satisfaction Scale (MSLSS) was also used.

Results of the study showed that there is a statistically significant relation-ship between the overall score of life satisfaction and its sub-dimensions as well as some of the irrational thoughts.

It also revealed that there is a difference in the nature of the correlation detected between life satisfaction dimensions and the irrational thoughts of males and females.

It was shown that there are statistically significant differences in the mean scores of males and females in four of the irrational thoughts namely: emotional Responsibility seeking approval, and dipendability (in favor of male students) and excessive worry (in favor of females students).

Findings also revealed that there are statistically significant differences between males and females in peer satisfaction, self-satisfaction and overall score of life satisfaction and three dimensions of life satisfaction, whereas it was not statistically significant for school satisfaction and self-satisfaction.

Finally, it is also indicated that helplessness and blaming proneness contribute to predict life satisfaction and some of its dimensions.
