Abstract EN

In this study, alcoholic extracts of (Allium sativum, Eugenia caryophyllus, Gossypium herbaceum, Ricinus communis and Eucalyptus globulus) were used as antibacterial against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which isolated from different sources.

Their effects on pyocyanin pigment production were studied.

A total of 20 of P.

aeruginosa were used.

Ten pathogenic isolates 79% were collected from different human clinical cases (burns and wounds) at Baghdad teaching hospital.

Meanwhile, ten wild isolates 18% were collected from soil and water samples and considered as saprophytic bacteria.

All of these 20 isolates were identified based on their morphological, cultural and biochemical characteristics.

After treating with mentioned extracts, the obtained results showed spectrum anti-bacterial activity according to tested isolates of P.

aeruginosa.

The wild-type isolates were found to be the most sensitive bacteria as indicated by the zone of inhibition.

While the pathogenic-type isolates were the less sensitive.

By comparing these results with the results obtained by using standard antibiotics (Cefotaxime, Amoxicillin, Tobramycin, Rifampcin and Gentamycin), the pathogenic isolates were found to be resistance to all antibiotics tested except Gentamycin and Rifampcin.

Meanwhile, the wild-type were susceptible to Gentamycin, Rifampcin and Tobramycin, but resistant only to Amoxicillin, and Cefotaxime.

On the other hand, the effective of extracts on pyocyanin pigmentation was clear by decrease the concentration and colour for the two type's isolates.
