Abstract EN

The study aims to investigate the effectiveness of a suggested programme in developing vocational education teachers' teaching competencies according to their training needs.

To achieve this goal, the researcher developed a questionnaire for identifying teachers' training needs consisting of 50 competencies categorised into four main areas : identifying and phrasing instructional objectives, teaching planning, lessons administration, and evaluation.

The questionnaire was administered to a group of teachers enrolled in the educational qualification programme at Garyounis University, College of Education in Benghazi, Libya.

Based on the questionnaire analysis results which indicated that the target teachers needed training in all the stated teaching competencies, the researcher prepared a training programme of three units : Instructional objectives and phrasing them, instructional content analysis, and teaching planning.

Also, an achievement test was constructed to measure the effectiveness of the training programme.

Results indicated the effectiveness of the programme in developing professional education teachers' teaching competencies involved in the programme.
