Abstract EN

Since the beginning of the last decade, Algeria has experienced a historical evolution of budget revenues due to the unprecedented increase in fuel prices in the world market.

Consequenly, Algeria applied three development programs of public investment in infrastructure since 2001.

This development model is different from the model followed during the seventies of the last century, that is, industrialized industry.

It is necessary to emphasize that public spending has long been considered a traditional tool for economic recovery during periods of recession, if it is used optimally and efficiently.

This study aims to analyze the impact of public expenditure policy in Algeria by testing the causal link between public spending and its components on the one hand and economic growth for the period 1997- 2011 on the other hand.

For this purpose I use the econometrics of time series, and specifically the Granger causality test.

The study concluded that public spending has led to economic growth and not the opposite, and the same is true about economic growth and expenditure
