English Abstract
This master thesis has the aim to design, assess the engineering performance and the cost analysis of an inventive double glazing solar water heater integrated tank recently patented by the company IntellCap.
The main goal of this project is to develop an innovative heat caption system and simulate the behavior of the solar water heater using available, reliable, efficient and cost effective materials.
The design of the solar water heater is made in a way that the rectangular storage tank is in direct contact with the absorber plate.
The absorber plate is made of glass, with a selective coating surface treatment or a thin-absorbing film at its bottom surface.
The upper surface of the glass will work as an insulator while the lower surface will be in direct contact with water.
Temperature of water and the thermal transfer between the absorber and water in the tank and thermal losses were predicted using different number of covers, thicknesses and materials.
A computer-aided design simulation using the software SolidWorks was run in order to compare the theoretical findings to the simulation results, identify the optimal materials of the covers through which most of the heat is dissipated, determine their optimal thickness and spacing, and optimize the design of the tank.
Finally, an economic analysis was conducted to evaluate the costs of production, financial viability and the payback period of each of the solar water heaters.
The results showed that the model is cost efficient, competitive and economically viable within the predictive selling
