Abstract EN

This paper attempts to subvert the ordinarily publicized view which holds that the philosophical thought of Ibn Rushd (Averroes) and Al Ghazali contradict each other.

Through my reading of Averroes’s word I found out that he was largely influenced by Al Ghazali.

This latter’s presence in Averroes’s philosophical work is not merely ideological, but also metacognitive.

This paper also attempts to answer a fundamental question relating to the way in which we can benefit from our Islamic tradition for a better practice of dialogue/debate ethics.

I argue that Averroes/ Al Ghazali dialogue is of great importance as it will help us invest its educational value in our academic and didactic settings.

Averroes/Al Ghazali dialogue/exchange will benefit our educational institutions by introducing basics of dialogue, debate and acceptance of the Other’s view on the world.

The importance of such a dialogue lies in its endeavor to make the history of philosophy a history of ideas and not of ideologies dominated by a language charging with infidelity and fights between different sects.
