Kassala railway line, which stopped working since 1970s.

This line, in case of coming to life, would serve well the political and economic countries, especially Chad and Central Africa Republic with the Sudan, and enabling them to use the Sudan sea ports.

It is expected that the line, when comes to life, would enable the Sudan to possess two parallel rail lines, independent of each others, but linked, and would be complemented to each other.

Furthermore, it is going to transport about 36% of the Sudan rail traffic, and that will reduce the traffic burden on the Khartoum- Atbara- Port Sudan line.

This percentage will increase in case of branch lines are extended to Genena and Hufrat Al Nihas.

The completion of this railway line if it extended to West Africa will foster the political, economic, and social relationships with the West African countries.

It is the goal of the Islamic Conference Organization which adopted the idea.
